  • Product Review- Bark Limiter G3 By Tri-Tronics 5440100

The Tri-Tronics Bark Limiter G3 is a product that should be a staple in every trainer’s field bag, and every dog owner’s supply closet.  This collar is the perfect tool to quiet the most extreme, stubborn hunting dog to the mellow house dog that nuisance barks.

    Tri-Tronics Bark Limiter

This bark collar is very simple to use.  It has five levels of stimulation so that it can be adjusted to any dog’s tolerance level.  I have found this collar to be very reliable.  In my experience, it doesn’t give false corrections like many bark collars do if they are slightly bumped or another noise is present.  It corrects when the dog barks, and that’s it!

The other very nice feature of the Bark Limiter G3 is the bark counter.  From the time you turn it on, to the time you turn it off, it keeps track of how many times it corrects your dog.  This feature comes in handy when you have to leave your dog at home or in a kennel when you can’t be around.  You can see just how well they behaved while you were gone!  This is also a good tool to see if you are using the correct level of stimulation, because you will be able to tell if your dog is constantly barking through its correction, or quieting down after one or two corrections.

The Bark Limiter G3 is definitely made with your dog in mind.  It is very lightweight, yet it packs a punch for those stubborn dogs.  It’s also waterproof so it can be utilized whether you’re at home, in the duck blind, training in a marsh, or doing a few retrieves off the dock.

    I definitely give the Tri-Tronics Bark Limiter G3 at well-deserved 9 out of 10.

  • Product Review: Renegade Collapsible Dog Food/Water Bowl by Mud River Dog Products MR1921

Behind the Blinds Labradors uses the Renegade Dog bowl wherever we go, from the Pheasant hunting in the Dakotas to working trade shows, and hunting dog events all over the US.  In our opinion this is the most efficient way to keep your dogs hydrated and is so convenient and does not take up barely any space (like hard dog bowls or buckets).  It is self-contained and rolls up easy and dos not take much room in your hunting vest/jacket or in your vehicle.  When your dog drinks from a water in the field they do not get the adequate amount of water to keep them hydrated, using the renegade will ensure that they get enough water.  The tough canvas material that is made out of ensures that it will hold up to all the abuse that you put it through at home or in the field.  It holds over 12 cups of food and over 100 oz. of water.  Again, Mud River Dog Product are creating innovative products that make owning and caring for a dog easier and more convenient, these guys at Mud River at great! I give 4 out of 5.

  • Product Review: Mud River Hoss Deluxe Dog Food Bag MR481

Behind the Blinds Labradors has been using the Hoss Dog Food Bag by Mud River for a couple years and we do not leave the kennel without it any more. It holds enough food for multiple dogs for multiple days but is also perfect for someone with one dog.  The resealable top makes it easier for keeping the food fresh and dry without having a bulky plastic tote or just having it in the original dog food bag that can rip when it gets damp, making it a huge mess in the back of your vehicle. The bag is made with those who travel in mind, this food bag is complete with 4 thick handles. The Mud River Hoss Dog Food Bag can handle over 100 cups of food ensuing that you always have enough food for your best friend or friends. I give these 4 out of 5.

  • Product Review: SportDOG 1825 E-collar (SD-1825)

The Sport Hunter SD-1825 is the go to E-collar for Behind the Blinds Labradors. It is one of the most versatile E-collars you can buy and is one of the best choices for an all-around use E-collar. It is designed for a wide range of training styles, from the novice training their first dog to the experienced trainer training on a daily basis and everything in between.

The nice thing about this collar is that is ready for multiple collars right out of the box for people that are training more than 1 dog at a time. We have had very few issues with this collar and if and when we do the SportDOG customer service takes great care of you to make sure things are taken care of in a timely fashion.  The collar is water proof so it perfect for training in the water. This is the collar that we recommend to all of our clients.

Behind the Blinds Labradors and / recommends that you don’t use a E-collar unless you are willing to learn how to properly use any ecollar. You can ruin a very good dog in short order by using the E-collar as punishment tool instead of a training tool!! I give this product a 4 ½ out 5.

  • Product Review: Dokken Mallard Dummies D100

Mallard Hunting Dog Training DummyThe Dokken mallard is in my opinion one of the most versatile dummies that Dokken makes.  With its life like colors it forces your dog to mark the bird instead looking for the white dummy when it gets into the water or the field. Also as far as size of the dummy, it can be used for puppies up to adults, the size is also beneficial to get your puppy or dog used to the weight of a real bird. It also teaches your dog how to properly how to pick a bird every time they pick up the dummy.  Which is nice when you can’t afford a bunch of different size/style dummies?

If I could only have one dummy to training my dogs, there is not doubt it would be the Dokken Mallard.  It is the best all around training tool, when it comes to dummies! Rating: 5 out 5 Stars!!

  • Product Review: Bobwhite Quail Dog Training Dummy by Dead Fowl Trainer Q100

Dead Fowl Dove Dummy Q100The dog training dummy dove is one of the Dokken dummies that is not the same size as the real thing; the Dove Dead Fowl Trainer is right around 3 times larger than a real dove. It is designed for use in teaching proper retrieving techniques for retriever puppies and for smaller breeds such as spaniels and Pointing Breeds. The dove dummy still have a natural game bird feel, for realistic retriever training and the dummy also includes dead bird neck to force proper retrieving, The larger size of the dove dummy is beneficial for a training a puppy to help with marking a down bird easier, but it is still small enough for them the easily pick up the dummy.

  • Dokken Dead Fowl Training Dummies- Product Review

Dokken dead fowl training dummies are one of the premier training bumpers on the market today. Dead fowl dummies teach your dog to properly pick up a bird every time your dog picks one up.  The dummies are made out of durable foam that you can inject different scents into and is designed to hold that scent in and out of the water.  For me the realism of each of the dummies is great, I use the mallard for my more advanced dogs because of the darker color it makes it harder to see.  I use the pintail and the bluebill for my less experienced dogs because of the whiter color that makes them a little easier to see.

I also like the different size of the dummies; it makes it nice to get your dog used to properly retrieving different size birds.  Also I like to use the smaller teal, quail, mourning dove, and wood duck for training my puppies, because they are the just the right size for puppies to be able to get their mouths around to help build confidence. I use the Goose for my bigger more advanced dogs because it has a tendency to be a little bulky for some dogs, but it is a great testing dummy for dogs that might be on the fence of being able to retrieve a goose in the field, it gives them that confidence that they can bring a goose back.

For the upland hunters out there, there is the pheasant, grouse, and chucker.  I like using these in the field, because of the realistic colors on the dummies they are easy to hide in the woods for a grouse or the tall grass of a CRP field for a pheasant.  The ability to hold sent so well makes it a great training tool when train a dog to use their nose to find birds in the thickest of cover.

If you are looking for a quality training dummy, Dokken dead fowl dummies will not disappoint you.  I highly recommend Dokken dummies for beginners all the way up to professional trainers.  The durability and the life like realism of each dummy ensure a long life of the dummy and a professional training experience even for new trainers. I would give this product, 9 out of 10.

  • Product Review: Pheasant Dog Training Dummy by Dead Fowl Trainer- F100

    pheasant dog training Dummy

The Dokken Dead Fowl Pheasant is must to have in your training bag if you are and upland hunter.  The realistic size and shape make it perfect for training your dog to retrieve real pheasants.  We use the Dead Fowl pheasant for land and water training day in and day out and it always holds up to the abuse. The soft foam body is easy for your dog to comfortably pick up and handle, and when injected with pheasant scent will hold scent for a long period of time.  The long flimsy tail that is attached to the dead fowl pheasant will discourage your dog from picking the bird up by the tail and encourage your dog to properly pick up the bird in the field.  Also the hard plastic head will discourage your dog for shaking the bird while retrieving.  If you use the dead fowl trainer on regular basis we recommend that you disinfect it at least once a week to help keep the not target scents off the dummy. I give this product a 4 ½ out of 5.
